How to bring class to your minimalist wedding stationery

Minimalist weddings are the in trend right now with less being seen as more in design, florals, décor and of course stationery. When it comes to the minimal look, it can often be seen as too plain or less in value because of its simplicity. Well, this blog is here to show you the opposite.

Minimal weddings can be super stylish, chic and elegant, bringing a timeless look with very little effort, but there are certain do’s and don’ts to consider. With your stationery instead of focussing on florals and watercolour imagery, we bring fonts and layout to the forefront leaving plenty of space for a design to breathe. This gives a simple yet eye-catching look to the design, and a bold confidence saying ‘less is more’.

I’ve compiled my top tips on how to bring a touch of class to your minimalistic stationery and still have the ‘wow’ factor.

Contrast

One thing to consider when going for a minimal look is contrast, the most obvious way to do this would be to use black and white, this will give you a bold, stylish statement. But you could also consider adding a gentle touch of colour. Adding hints of pastels, metallic colours such as gold or copper, or a neutral tone like stone or champagne will keep things classy but will help to add little glimpses of lighter tones throughout your wedding to soften the overall look and bring a delicate romantic aura.

Fonts

The main aspect of any minimal design is the font, this is going to make or break the design and there’s really nowhere to hide. Always choose 2 complementing fonts, this helps break up the design and will bring another dimension to the look that you won’t get from florals, patterns or colour.

The best way to choose minimal fonts is to go with a strong serif font and then a gentle calligraphy style (just on a few lines of text). This will add a touch of elegance whilst keeping things simple, it will also help draw the eye to the main parts of text. For me personally, I love to use it either on the names or on the ‘and’ between names, this draws the eye in to who’s wedding they’re invited to, which is kinda a big deal, right?

Materials

Choosing the right cardstock for your minimal stationery really will have a huge impact. The same design can look completely different on another texture so choose one that brings class but doesn’t distract from the invite details. Popular minimal choices are things like hammer effect, linens or gresso style embossed cards, these have softer detailing that allow the design to still be the centrepiece.

Also consider the colour of cardstock. Every texture has a slightly different hue of white, or you may want a subtle cream or ivory depending on your wedding colour scheme. My advice is to think about the style of wedding you’re hoping to achieve and work from there, i.e if you’re going for a romantic look consider a softer hue than bright white and add texture. If you’re going for a modern minimal, you may prefer a brighter white and a standard card with a slight grain or a smooth card to keep things classy and neat.

Extras

Now of course with minimal design extras are definitely not needed, but if you did want to add little elements to elevate your look, consider adding large bows or gentle ribbon knots, this will bring a dash of colour and will certainly bring class to your design. Or consider smaller additions such as wax seals or printed bands, this is a really lovely way to add personal touches, a pop of colour, and will add layers to your stationery to bring a luxurious feel.

I hope these tips help you narrow down your stationery choices and make your designs look luxurious, classy and beautiful, but if you’re still not sure how to bring it all together, get in touch now for your free consultation and I will help create your dream stationery with ease.
