Winter wedding ideas to make your stationery more magical

Now that we’re into winter and are getting festive in the run up to Christmas, now is a great time to be looking at popular winter wedding trends.

Winter weddings are becoming more frequent, with twinkling lights, magical scenery, the potential of white snow, warm fires and cosy evenings, the season certainly does not disappoint.

But when it comes to your wedding stationery, how do we add the magical ambience of the most wonderful time of the year? Well, here are some ideas to consider to add a little more sparkle and festivity to your wedding look.

FLORALS

As much as florals aren’t highly associated with winter, there are a range of florals we can use to bring a Christmas touch. Consider adding poinsettia flowers, red berries, mistletoe, holly and pine leaves for a real natural winter look. If you’re looking for less traditional Christmas plants, consider winter blooming florals such as pansies, violas, winter jasmine, Christmas roses, snowdrops, winter heather or primroses. All of these will add that floral wedding look with a winter twist.

When adding winter florals, consider arranging them more sporadically for a rustic look, or in a wreath shape for a real festive vibe. If you’re wanting to go more classy, put them together in a larger bouquet style, oversizing flowers adds a bold confidence to a design and can create a luxurious elegant look.

 COLOUR

With winter, colours are few, especially in nature, but there are some beautifully moody colours to consider that will add winter magic to your day. Red is the obvious choice, especially for Christmas weddings, with it’s warm nature and joyful tone, it’s a perfect addition to any festive wedding.

If red isn’t for you though, consider a deep emerald green for festivity and elegance or a burgundy for a deeper red with warm tones. Midnight or navy blue can work really well for winter weddings, bringing a classy feel to complement the colder dark nights.

Another popular colour choice is champagne, a little less bold than gold but with all the elegance you need for a luxurious winter celebration. Or, you could opt for gorgeous white florals and dark green foliage for a clean, minimal look.

SEASONAL ELEMENTS

With Christmas, it’s difficult to add imagery without stationery feeling like a Christmas card. But here are my tips to avoid this if you don’t want to use florals.

Avoid at all costs santas, reindeer and gifts, as these will always have a Christmas card look. Consider instead using sketches of baubles and bows, twinkle lights, or snow dusted watercolour trees for extra class. This will add a more sophisticated feel.

By using larger calligraphy fonts we can make headings or names stand out and look more romanticised for a wedding look too, taking away from the traditional Christmas card aesthetic.

ADDITIONS

Adding embellishments and ribbons is another way to add a festive look to your stationery. Consider using larger bows (like a gift), or wax seals for a more traditional look. Adding colourful envelopes can help add festive colour, and using artificial or dried winter florals can add layers and elegance.

Whichever look you decide on, remember that to bring festivity the design needs to capture the joy and love of the season. If you’re ready to get to work designing your festive stationery, book your free consultation here to get started.
